Richard Frette

IT&BI Director
Fidra Energy

Richard Frette is an experienced technology and business information leader with more than 25 years in the energy industry. Throughout his career, he has worked across a broad range of generation technologies, spending much of his time supporting and enabling thermal power generation before transitioning his focus in recent years to utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS). This combination of traditional generation expertise and experience in emerging energy technologies has given him a unique perspective on the digital transformation of the energy sector.

Richard began his career in software development, building a strong technical foundation in designing and delivering business-critical applications. He subsequently moved into large-scale systems implementation and integration roles, helping organisations modernise their technology landscapes and improve operational efficiency. Over time, his focus evolved towards business intelligence, data strategy and information management, where he developed a passion for transforming data into actionable business insight and enabling better decision-making through technology.

Today, Richard leads Fidra Energy’s IT, Business Intelligence and Cyber Security strategy, driving the digital capabilities that support the company’s growth and operational ambitions. He is responsible for ensuring that technology, data and cyber resilience are embedded into the organisation’s strategic objectives, while delivering secure, scalable and innovative solutions that underpin critical business operations.

A strong advocate for cyber security, Richard is particularly passionate about the role it plays in safeguarding modern energy infrastructure. As battery energy storage becomes an increasingly important component of the transition to a low-carbon energy system, he is committed to delivering large-scale battery projects with cyber security built in from the outset. His focus is on ensuring that operational technology, information systems and digital platforms are secure, resilient and capable of supporting the next generation of energy assets safely and reliably.
